Inspiration

Legal industry is still very inefficient, and stories of people who get picked up by the system, and wrongly accused are very common. Some of our team members have experienced their friends go through these hardships and have seen the system fail them. They have used AI tools to make their arguments in court and believe that AI can bring more transparency and truth in the current legal system.

What it does

Our system can analyse Audio or PDF Text files, based on a criteria that we define, and gives an automated score, called Innocence Score, for each case.

It also gives details on why this score is given, rationale behind the scoring, and also gives a complete case background and project breakdown, so that a probono lawyer or Innocence Center can decide whether to take-on that case or not.

How we built it

We used tools like Gemeni API, Claude Code, .....

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we faced were limitations of the API to analyse large documents, so we had to increase the size of files it can take up. Additionally, we wanted the system to take up bulk case files and analyse in bulk and give those cases with highest innocence score.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We worked as a passionate and driven team, to unearth a score, which can highlight cases that can prioritize the cases that Innocence Center can focus their energies on.

What we learned

We learnt that AI has the power to analyse in bulk and give outputs, that can transform the legal industry!

What's next for Innocence Score

System can be used as is to get insights from all of these parole hearings. Additionally, if you have the complete transcripts of any case, our system can analyse it and give an innocence score. This could lead to "re-trials" or the "additional" or "New" insights can be used to file for appeals, which can lead to many people currently convicted to get released.
