Inspiration
As employers begin asking employees to work from home to stop the spread of COVID-19, virtual interviews are taking the place of in-person job interviews and becoming the new norm. This has left both the interviewees and the interviewers facing new challenges in the process. One of the main challenges is that during the interview, the interviewer is forced to ask the interviewee to speak slower so that they could catch all that of it and at the same time take notes which leaves both sides distracted and leads to a lack of genuine human interaction. The interviewer loses focus of the person sitting on the other side of the computer screen, and the interviewee loses track of what they wanted to present. Another challenge that inspired this project is the abundance of data and today's candidate-driven market. Candidate experience is high on the list of facts that contributes to both a company’s ability to attract and hire top talent and where candidates are left in terms of growth after an interview experience. These days everyone is applying for jobs online and with many online job aggregation sites such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc. it's become easier than ever to search and apply for jobs. Many candidates submit their resumes for dozens of job postings at a time and HR departments are flooded with resumes. This abundance of data leaves candidates empty-handed and unmotivated as they will end up only hear back from the hiring manager if they want to move forward with the application, otherwise, they're given the silent treatment.
At innerView, we believe there needs to be a change in the system from both the interviewer's side and the interviewee's side. The interviewer should not risk losing future talent even if they are not fit for one role, they should give constructive criticism to the applicant so that they can build on their skills and be able to present themselves in the best possible light at future interviews. Our mission is to make both sides of the party stronger so that we can grow together.
What it does
innerView gives an insider look into the interview process for both sides of the party. For the interviewer, it helps load interview questions, analyze candidate responses, bookmark and organize the interview. Meanwhile, the interviewee receives well-intended feedback that helps build on their interview skills to present themselves in the best possible light in future job interviews.
How we built it
Figma was used for the UI/UX design. The web app is deployed on Google Cloud. 2Keys Digital Identity Platform to secure the interviewee's personal information, get consent of recording the interview for future purposes, audit, and manage users. OpenAI speech-to-text API to transcribe the interview to replace the traditional note-taking of interviewers.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges we ran into was the use of 2Keys and figuring out all the cybersecurity loopholes the platform might potentialy have.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Digging deep into the different challenges both the hiring managers and job seekers have been facing over the past year has been very interesting. An accomplishment we're proud of is completing the design and prototype of this platform in such a short amount of time and learning about all the different tools that could be used in the way.
What we learned
We're happy to have learned more about the use of different API's such OpenAI and 2Keys.
What's next for innerView
Our future plans are to scale the platform using the non-identifiable data collected from both the interviewer and interviewee and create a more human-centric environment for job interviews. Other plans include developing mock interview packages and coaching services specific to each company and role.
