Our project, München Mitgestalten, was inspired by Munich's own challenges with citizen engagement, bureaucratic efficiency, and democratic transparency. We learned that a truly smart city isn't just about technology, but about creating a seamless, transparent bridge between its people and their government. We built a full-stack web application using a React frontend with a Tailwind CSS design system mirroring Munich's official branding, connected to a robust Python FastAPI backend and a PostgreSQL database with PostGIS for spatial data. The core challenge was designing an AI agent intelligent enough to accurately categorize and route reports, yet transparent and simple enough to build and trust within the tight 38-hour hackathon timeframe, ensuring it enhanced human decision-making rather than replacing it.
