Inspiration

We noticed that there are practically no games inspired by the Inka culture, which although they are not exactly our ancestors, we have had Inka influence in Ecuador. So it seemed only fair to make a game that honors that memory. We wanted a challenging game, like chess, but at the same time adapted to the speed of today's world. So we thought about making quick games. and step by step the idea took shape.

What it does

It is a strategy game for 2 players inspired by chess. But we have taken liberties to make some changes such as reducing the number of pieces, or the size of the board. But we have maintained that the game is turn-based, and that one piece is the main one. If it is taken, the game ends.

How we built it.

We start with a prototype that allows us to play with each other and see if it is fun. Once we liked it, we began to place the missing details such as the interface, or the theme. Also we need differente tech stack to handle online game, save records, etc etc.

Challenges we ran into

The game has many features. like playing online, or playing against the PC. Have validations so that the pieces move only where they should, the rules of the game, such as possession of the pieces, etc. and other details. like having several languages, animations in game, world records, etc. managing all the features together was a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The artificial intelligence that allows you to play with the PC. We had some ideas, but it wasn't smart enough to make it a challenge. But after analyzing different strategies, we finally found one that is fun to play against.

What we learned

A lot. From state management to flutter. going through weighing strategies for an AI, to managing interfaces with different capabilities to tell the initial story. We have used many technologies to be able to have all the features working. And that has taught us a lot.

What's next for Inka Chess

There is a lot that needs to be polished. Especially the online game that has some problems. and optimization. We would also like to add accessibility features, as narrated so that more people can play it.
