Spotify's original UI

What it does

The currently playing song is substantially bigger than the standard Spotify's UI displays. This is so that the user can clearly recognize the song album and artists, rather than be distracted by other numerous windows. On that note, menus such as home, search, library, friends, and settings are minimized and iconified into the bottom bar. This frees up the space to maximize the current experience. Under the currently playing song, there are two new options. If the user clicks Less like this, the song will skip and the algorithm will choose the next song that is different from the current song. If the user clicks More like this, the algorithm will select the next song so that the genre is similar to the current song. The last new feature is the playlist ranking. The current way to explore playlists is very restricted since the only playlists that the explore page features are "popular playlists". Instead, my design features playlist rankings based on daily listeners, users would be motivated to expand their creativity and also update the playlist with new releases, engaging both the curators and the listeners.

How we built it

I used Figma and the desktop Spotify application.

Challenges we ran into

I couldn't stop listening to corpse's songs along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I love glassmorphism and I will incorporate this into every design I ever make from now on.

What we learned

The tiny details such as how many pixels the play buttons are from the skip buttons don't matter all that much. Skip the detail if it's taking too long.

What's next for INIT Spotify UI/UX Redesign

For the playlist rankings to fully take off, it would need categories. This doesn't have to be genres, necessarily. It can be something like "You have the aux at the party", "Driving with best friends", or "Main character". It would really open up the creative aspect for the listeners.
