Inspiration

The incentive to create this is following my interests in mental health. After publishing a paper in BD last year, I felt that it was important that this aspect of life was heard by the public. I originally wanted to create just a mental health quiz. However, my research from then and my research now for my final English-history paper reminded me that there are so many different aspects of life. The environmental aspect. The genetic aspect. There are aspects that identify a person as them and that can translate into one's mental health. There are so many different reasons why someone may have depression or anxiety and it is unique to each and every person. Mental Health affects anyone and everyone. They are at risk of succumbing and committing suicide. This quiz uses the multiple aspects of MH to take a step forward and tackle this evil. With this, I decided to create multiple quizzes to allow them to merge and explain how this may come to be. This quiz takes the ideas of the multiple parts of mental health and uses a pet, music, mental health, and introvert/extrovert quiz to take these results and allow someone to understand their inner self. One step at a time, I hope to tackle this evil.

What it does

This quiz takes the ideas of the multiple parts of mental health and uses a pet, music, mental health, and introvert/extrovert quiz to take these results and allow someone to understand their inner self.

How we built it

I built the final thing using JS, CSS, and HTML. The JS does most of the hard work, calculating the scores and getting the data. I used repl.it to host the entire thing.

Challenges we ran into

I ran into so many challenges! From the Java UI not working, to repl.it being down and forcing me to download everything in a panic, it was a hectic 24 hrs. Additionally, it was fun trying to get the JS work and getting the results. I tried automating the process, to no avail. This is probably what I want to try and work on next, as it would allow for things to be not manual.

Accomplishments that we're proud of’

I’m really proud of being able to finish this. With repl.it being down, and having to start over with Java, I am really glad I got some quizzes up there and have it all together.

What we learned

Honestly, it was a great time to refresh the skills I was rusty in (namely connecting the data from HTML to the JS and getting the data in and doing the stuff with the data). I learned a lot about CS but also about the real world and mental health.

What's next for Inside and Out

I want to try automating the data collection, so not everything has to be manual. I would do this using arrays and loops. Additionally, the more data, the more accurate things can be! I hope to add more quizzes and flush out the combo section, so the results can be more comprehensive.
