In this project we are aiming to inactivate Covid-19 by heating and evaporating droplets and aeresols in the air. We will use infrared light (other than UV) which is applicable on human in public areas (emergency rooms, schools and public transport). Temperature and humidity-dependent decay are already well known inactivators of all viruses. We will try to reduce spread of virus (1) and immunize people (2) by inactivated virus inside the aerosols.
"Respiratory vaccination reach back to ancient China and India as early as 100 BC. The scabs of patients’ smallpox lesions were collected, dried to inactivate the virus and ground to powder. The powder was then administered to the nose of non-infected patients by a small blow pipe. This treatment was not harmless and bore a risk for a deadly smallpox infection of 0.5–2% mortality compared 20–30% when the disease was obtained through natural infection. For long, this application remained the only reported respiratory vaccination and it was in use in India until the 1970s."
Influeanza (H1N1,H5N1…) and corona (SARS, MERS, COVİD-19…) viruses are causing pandemics in the recent decades. The mutations interfere with the effectiveness of the drugs and vaccines.
As Covid-19, humanity could face new viruses without vaccine and treatment. So, we aimed to reduce the transmission of all respiratory viruses: on fomites, droplets and aerosols.
UV lights were inappropriate to use because of side effects. We searched on IR If it could be effective.
Heating and evaporation of aerosols and droplets are two mechanism that inactivate viruses. Firstly, we were aiming to reduce quality and quantity of droplets and aerosols infectivity by IR heating/drying. Secondly, we recognized the potential of this project as a new type of "respiratory vaccination".
"No need to vaccine research and production, and vaccination program."
Even if it is not as UV lights; 24/7 application of IR lights is suggested to increase effectiveness, cumulatively.
In conclusion, this prototype will be ready to use from Day Zero of any respiratory virus/bacteria pandemics.
