Inspiration
I often scroll through social media only to pick up "facts" that turn out to be misleading or just outright false. Verifying the info by opening up another browser and searching up multiple sources takes a lot of work that most people are too lazy to do, allowing for misinformation to spread.
What it does
InfoShield analyzes the post that user is reading by checking for movement and scrapes all the related info for Gemini to search up. Once Gemini finds the related info, it cross verifies it with multiple sources and returns its results in an easy-to-read layout, stating whether the post was factual or misinformation while also providing a link back to the main source it got its information from.
How we built it
I built it using python and the Gemini API to handle the web searching requests.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest part was integrating the UI into the interface without making it seem annoying to the user.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of learning how to create a plugin for chrome for this project.
What we learned
I learned how to create plugins for chrome.
What's next for InfoShield
The next step is to integrate InfoShield into other platforms so that it can be the one and only fact checking device needed for the everyday user.
