Inspiration

Financial literacy is important to all yet not intuitive. Sunlife's challenge spoke to our team, and we figured it was at a good level for our members. Our app strives to visualize the impact of inflation on mortgage rates.

What it does

InfluenSmart is an app that empowers clients by visualizing mortgage rates and the impact of inflation.

How we built it

We utilized a MERN (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) stack to build our solution. Our development journey involved integrating MongoDB for data storage, Express.js for server-side operations, React.js for building an intuitive user interface, and Node.js for efficient server-side scripting. This cohesive MERN architecture allowed us to create a robust and responsive platform.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we ran into was understanding the math behind the mortgage rates, as none of us were in the finance field. Thankfully, with the help of tutorial videos, chat-GPT, and a fellow coder in the finance field, we came to better understand the formulas behind mortgage rate calculations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to turn our seemingly simple idea into reality. This wasn't just a coding experience but also a conceptual math challenge. Expanding the app to support more calculations and visualizations has the potential to help customers make better financial decisions.
