Inspiration
As a marketer tired of wasting budget on influencers with fake followers, I saw a gap: brands needed clarity on authentic engagement. I wanted to build a tool that stripped away the noise, putting real, actionable data at the center of partnership decisions—for brands, agencies, and creators alike.
What it does
Influencer DB is a web-based platform that lets users search, filter, and analyze vetted content creators. It surfaces real engagement metrics (no inflated numbers), breaks down audience demographics, and even analyzes competitor influencer strategies—all to make partnership choices smarter and more transparent.
How we built it
I started by mapping core user needs: intuitive search, real-time filters, and clear data visualization. Using React for the frontend, I built a responsive dashboard with dynamic filter logic (AND-based combinations) and integrated Chart.js to render engagement charts. For export functionality, I leveraged CSVjs to ensure clean, usable data exports, and Bootstrap to keep the UI consistent across desktop.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was designing the engagement rate calculation logic to exclude bot activity—balancing accuracy with real-time performance meant iterating on filter logic repeatedly. I also struggled with making complex data visualizations (like audience demographic maps) load quickly, but optimized rendering to hit the 3-second load goal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a fully functional platform where every filter updates results in real time, and the export tool works seamlessly (even with edge cases like empty selections). Most importantly, the UI prioritizes readability and speed—critical for busy marketers who need to make fast decisions.
What we learned
I deepened my understanding of data visualization best practices and how to translate complex business rules (like AND logic for filters) into clean, efficient code. I also learned to prioritize user feedback early—testing the filter panel with actual marketers shaped the final design far more than assumptions alone.
What's next for this project
Next, I want to expand the competitor analysis features to include content theme tracking over time, and add more granular audience segmentation. I also plan to refine the mobile responsiveness (even though it’s out of scope for this release) to make the platform accessible on-the-go for busy brand managers.
