Climate Change in Toronto

Inspiration

Climate change can have impact on human health and safety, and natural resources throughout the world. Climate change is a global issue that everyone should be aware of and contributes to have a global solution.

What it does

We leverage Google Map SDKs to show the influential factors to climate change in one of major cities in Canada. We present our self-awareness of climate change and broadcast the concept of protecting our city through the project.

How we built it

We leveraged node.js and express to build the web application and collect data from Toronto Open Data.

Challenges we ran into

We faced three challenges while implementing the projects. One challenge was that the format the data in Toronto Open Data was not generalized into one data format. The second one was to feed several datasets into the Google Map SDKs to indicate the evolution of a certain subject. The last challenge was to beautify the web application.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Organized several data related to climate change into a story and visualized it in web pages by Google Map SDKs.

What we learned

We implemented a program to transform the data to the Geojson format that can be used by Google Map SDKs. In addition, we learned depicting several layers on a web page and adding animation on a web page.
