Inspiration
We were thinking about things that bring lasting interest in STEM careers for school-aged children under the age of 12. We reminiscence about our experiences and the sort of websites or simulations that inspired us to follow our career path. We looked at website like code.org, scratch, BrainPops, PBS kids, Cool math, etc. One thing we regret was that most of these websites did not exposed to concepts of engineering, advance maths, etc. We were not exposed to such concept until coming to college. We felt that have an interactive web app that exposes children to the core concepts of engineering and design will encourage them explore on their own.
What it does
This web app is currently a rough outline of our envision. We selected a subject (in this case Calculus) and attempted to explain its fundamental concepts with relatable examples.
How we built it
We built the website using HTML and CSS. We used GitHub to keep track of its versions.
Challenges we ran into
Animations and the lack of application in CSS, JavaScript, & HTML were some of the challenges we ran into while working on this project. Although we were able to conceptualize this concept, our limited application and understanding made some of the features rather difficult while others nearly impossible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the small animations and the implementations of buttons that perform a relatively smooth transition.
What we learned
We learned that an animation requires interactions between HTML, JS, & CSS. We learned about keyframes. We learned how to compose basic shapes like triangle using JavaScript.
What's next for Infinity For Kids
With more understanding of these softwares (HTML, JS, CSS, etc.). We want to expand animations and interactive to create a more continuous web page that "teach" calculus. After experimenting with Calculus, we would aim to applying our understanding to engineering such as basic but core concepts in electrical circuits, algorithms, hardware, organic chemistry, etc.
