iNFTme: Preserving Voices, Memories, and Truth for the Future
Inspiration
iNFTme was inspired by a deep commitment to Freedom of Speech, a fundamental right in the USA and a human right worldwide. With this right under attack globally—such as in Britain, where people can be jailed for tweets—I felt the need to preserve voices, stories, and ideas for future generations. Discovering Arweave was pivotal; its permanent storage capabilities offered a way to ensure that once something is spoken, shared, or created, it can’t be erased or manipulated. However, Web2 users, who need this technology the most, face a steep barrier to entry. iNFTme bridges this gap by making Arweave’s permanence accessible through a user-friendly, intuitive app.
What it does
iNFTme allows users to effortlessly save their stories, projects, and memories forever. With features like seamless uploads of photos, videos, and posts from Twitter and Discord to Arweave, iNFTme ensures that your content is immutable and permanently accessible. Beyond preserving personal moments, it supports real-time recording of interviews, project documentation, and business transparency through integrations with tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack. iNFTme is more than an app—it’s a gateway to Web3 permanence with Web2 simplicity.
How we built it
iNFTme was developed using a modern tech stack designed for scalability and user experience:
- Frontend: Built with Flutter to ensure compatibility across platforms.
- Backend: Firebase powers authentication, serverless functions, and temporary storage of user settings and transaction IDs, with plans to transition to decentralized alternatives. AOComputer for TXID Handling from MS Teams and to the Permaweb.
- Blockchain: Arweave serves as the foundation for permanent storage, accessed via ArDrive’s API for immediate availability.
The app integrates with social platforms like Twitter and Discord, providing users with a seamless way to connect and save their content to the blockchain.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing Web2 simplicity with Web3 innovation was our greatest challenge. Web3 tools are often complex, and creating an app that feels familiar to Web2 users required significant rethinking of workflows and integrations. Midway through development, we faced a major obstacle when Akord’s API, which we relied on, was discontinued. This forced us to pivot to ArDrive’s API, requiring substantial rework but ultimately strengthening the platform. We also grappled with decentralization limitations, as integrations like Discord bots and Twitter will always rely on Web2 systems.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully creating a seamless user experience that bridges Web2 and Web3.
- Building an app that empowers users to preserve their voices and content permanently, regardless of their familiarity with blockchain technology.
- Overcoming technical setbacks, such as the loss of Akord’s API, and emerging with a more robust platform.
- Developing innovative features like real-time content preservation, which can combat fake news and ensure accountability in interviews and projects.
What we learned
We learned that simplicity is the key to driving Web3 adoption. Web2 users won’t embrace blockchain technology if it feels complicated or foreign, so designing with their perspective in mind was crucial. We also gained a deeper understanding of the technical and philosophical balance between decentralization and usability, especially when working with Web2 platforms. Lastly, we learned that adaptability is essential—when faced with challenges, such as losing a key API, finding alternative solutions strengthened our project.
What's next for INFINITEME (iNFTme)
iNFTme is just getting started. Our roadmap includes:
- Near-fully decentralized backend architecture to reduce reliance on third-party services.
- Encrypted private data storage for enhanced user privacy.
- Expanded integrations with platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok.
- Enhanced tools for creators to tokenize their content, assign usage rights, and build gated communities.
- Supporting home projects and heirlooms with permaweb pages and ArNS names for future generations.
iNFTme is more than a tool; it’s a mission to preserve voices, protect truths, and empower people to take ownership of their stories and legacies.
