Inspiration

A few weeks before our regional FRC competition, our team’s scouting lead left unexpectedly. We had no working system and little time to spare. I decided to take on the challenge and build a new scouting platform—this time with the help of AI—to save time and make the system more efficient for all future events.

What it does

Infinite Scout is an AI-powered scouting platform designed for FRC teams. It helps teams track, organize, and analyze match data across different regional events. It removes the need for manually comparing Excel sheets and speeds up alliance decision-making during tight competition schedules. Multiple scouting members can input data in real time, and the platform automatically compiles and visualizes team performance metrics.

How we built it

I started by reviewing our previous scouting site, identifying its strengths and weaknesses. I then used ChatGPT to get feedback and suggestions on system design. With Bolt AI, I generated the base structure of the website, and spent significant time manually refining components, optimizing the UI, and tailoring it to fit FRC scouting needs.

Challenges we ran into

One major challenge was data storage—specifically, how to ensure that the site wouldn’t crash or max out during competition when data is being entered rapidly. I focused on minimizing unnecessary components to reduce load and prevent performance issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I published my first official full-featured website—Infinite Scout! I’m proud that it not only works, but actively helps other teams improve their scouting process. It reduces the stress and workload of scouting teams, and even helps them get more sleep during intense multi-day competitions.

What we learned

This project taught me how to turn an idea into a product using AI tools. I learned how to iterate based on user needs, and how to balance automated generation with manual adjustments to create something truly functional and user-friendly.

What's next for Infinite Scout

Next, Infinite Scout will adapt to the new season’s FRC game rules. We'll allow teams to redesign components based on new game formats, and expand the system to support more analytics and cross-event comparisons.

I'm a 16-year-old high school student from Taiwan who loves robotics and has attended the FIRST Robotics Competition through regionals to the World Championship, and I found a problem with most of the teams, which is that there are always many scouting people who scout the robots by team and analyze them manually. From what I saw in my team, those scouting people need to gather and analyze the data with the team every night after the competition, and they don't have enough sleep time due to that. So, in order to solve this very specific problem, I started to learn computer science and code, which I then used to develop this website with Bolt AI for three entire days. I'm definitely a beginner but I work really hard, even though there were so much challenges for me when building this website, especially the short amount of time I have since I want it to be test officially by the coming up offseason competition in summer. but thank God I made it!
