Inspiration
One of our group members had this idea while listening to the presentation made by the firefighters who came in during the event. We refined the idea to be part of the Communication section of the competition, but it also helps with Suppression as all of the proceeds are donated to firefighters. Overall, we were inspired to fix a real issue in a game-like setting.
What it does
It spreads awareness to the public about the nature of forest fires and how they are prevented, which reduces panic and gives more respect to the firefighters who risk their lives every day doing dangerous things.
How we built it
We coded the general framework of the game, and let AI work on more detailed parts of it, such as the app cover and the general animations and graphics.
Challenges we ran into
It was difficult to really fine-tune the graphics and overall interface into the sketch that we had produced, but once we did we all felt really rewarded and proud.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how smoothly our game runs due to the amount of effort we put into it to make it as good as possible. We created many different versions of our game in order to reach our final project. It was not a smooth road, as some versions were worst then the last, but after over fifty attempts and updates, we finally created a project that met all our expectations.
What we learned
We learned about coding really detailed games and the effort that needs to be put in. We also learned about the different ways to fight fires and all the effort that goes into that
What's next for Inferno Defense- A Wildfire Strategy Game
Next, we plan to expand the game with more levels, additional tree types, and seasonal variations that affect fire behavior. We would love to partner with local firefighting organizations and raise funds and awareness, as well as improving the historical accuracy of the game. We want to add multiplayer functionality and leaderboards to increase engagement and connection while playing. Ultimately, we hope Inferno Defense becomes both a learning tool and a fun game that motivates players to think about wildfire prevention and environmental responsibility.
