Inspiration

You budget money. You budget time. But how do you budget energy?

For most of my life, I just did it by feel. Went with the flow, felt the vibes.

And that worked pretty well. Until I actually started adulting.

I then realized that even though work, fitness, community, relationships, stability, aspirations, dreams, and a full 8-hours of sleep were all equally important to me, it didn’t mean that I could magically handle it all.

Coworkers could tell I was drifting away, friendships were strained, and my sleep took a toll. All while telling myself that attempting to juggle life was the right answer, I just had to be better at it.

But no matter how much I tried, it always felt as if everything was slightly out of equilibrium.

No matter how long I tried, I could never achieve that perfect balance.

Until, of course, I realized: that was the point.

What Inference does

There is no such thing as a balanced life. We each choose what's important to us, and how much energy we devote to those parts of our lives. It’s that unique distribution that shapes our identities.

Inference is the manifestation of this vision. A way for all of us to fine-tune our own imbalances and make active decisions on how to spend our energy.

How I built it

The power behind Inference is quantifying energy. Journal entries are converted into energy scores, numerical data that the agent can use to calculate your energy fluctuations over time.

Combining this data with your goal progress lets the agent map your energy efficiency. If the agent sees a goal struggling to progress despite consistent energy poured in, it will flag it and help you switch tactics.

Whether you check in every day or every two weeks, Inference will continue thinking on your behalf in the background. That’s what makes it fundamentally different: intelligence is running 24/7, laser focused on unearthing patterns in the way you live to help you manage the areas of life you care about.

Inference Summary

Challenges I ran into

  • Managing sub-agent latency. Fixed by upgrading to the latest version of Vercel Workflows 😩
  • Fine-tuning agent behaviors, namely reducing the tendency for the agent to respond by rewording what the user said.

What's next for Inference

Community is one of the most underrated factors in personal growth, and inference is uniquely positioned to help users discover community related to the personalized challenges they face.

Expanding as a platform will let users sync goal progress with their friends, encourage one another from within the app by checking in on their energy intensity, and give insights on new tactics and plans from people who have actually achieved similar goals. Imagine it as adulting, but multiplayer.
