🏭 Inspiration
As an Electrical Engineer with an ML obsession, I’ve spent way too much time watching production lines and thinking, "There has to be a better way to track this than a guy with a clipboard." I’ve seen the chaos of shift handovers where critical info just vanishes into thin air. The idea for IndustrialCell.AI struck me when I realized we could give the factory floor a "brain" that actually remembers what happened yesterday. I wanted to build an agent that owns the whole supervisor role—not just a fancy motion detector, but a partner that understands the rules of the game.
🛠️ How We Built It (The Midnight Prototype)
This project was fueled by coffee and a "build-till-dawn" mentality. Since this is a prototype, I wanted it to be modular and scalable from the start:
- The Brain: We utilized frontier multimodal models (GLM-4.6V and StepFun) to do the heavy lifting.
- Scrappy Architecture: As an engineer, I know that if it doesn't work in the real world, it's just a toy. We built a persistent storage manager and a vision engine that can handle messy, real-world industrial footage.
- End-to-End: We didn't stop until we had a full Enterprise Dashboard with sidebars, archives, and a functioning command center.
🧠 What We Learned
We proved that Reasoning > Hardcoding. In a factory, things change. Rules change. Workers change coats. By building an agent that can "read" an SOP and "look" at a video, we created a system that is infinitely more adaptable than traditional computer vision.
🚧 Challenges: The "Broke Hacker" Special 💸
The biggest challenge? Let’s be real: Our API budget was exactly $0.00. We faced a "Rate Limit Boss" every 10 minutes. While big startups are throwing thousands of dollars at GPT-4o, we were out here scavenging for the best free-tier vision models like a scavenger in a post-apocalyptic factory.
We had to build a "Model Fallback System" just to stay alive—switching between GLM and StepFun whenever the free-tier gods frowned upon us. Trying to fit high-level industrial reasoning into a free API quota while fighting Windows text encoding errors at 3 AM was a unique kind of torture, but it forced us to make the code incredibly efficient. If it can run on a "Pay-As-You-Go-But-I-Have-No-Money" plan, it can run anywhere!
🚀 The Future of IndustrialCell.AI
This is a workable, battle-tested prototype. Next, I want to integrate this with live PLC data and industrial IoT sensors. The goal is to move from "Shift Supervisor" to "Full Plant Autonomy"—hopefully with a slightly larger API budget next time.
