Inspiration
As a team of passionate engineering lecturers, we're always seeking new ways to enhance student learning and revolutionize sustainability practices for generations to come. Recognizing the critical role of carbon emission management, we set out to create a groundbreaking solution that would revolutionize the way industries approach sustainability.
Our mission is to develop an app analyst for carbon emissions, which empowers organizations to measure, analyze, and strategically reduce their carbon footprint. By championing environmental responsibility and sustainability, this tool propels us towards a greener, more resilient future for our planet.
What it does
This digital analyst helps organizations quantify their company’s annual carbon emissions on a yearly basis.
This is done through simple input of annual consumption of 8 main resources (Water, Diesel, Electricity, Iron, Aluminium, Plastic, Paper and Wood) into the application. The company's annual carbon emission will be calculated and presented in tonnes. The application also guides stakeholders to reduce emissions by recommending various sustainability methods that have been implemented by leading industry-related companies.
How we built it
Our Industrial Carbon Emission Calculator was built solely on the Partyrock platform, utilizing all the functionalities provided by the Amazon Bedrock Playgroud.
Each contributing parameters' material to carbon emission ratio is based off latest citation references, allowing authentic calculation of associated carbon emissions.
Challenges we ran into
- Learning and understanding of language-based generative AI application (eg. Partyrock).
- Ensuring reliable and trustworthy calculations through meticulous research.
- Seamlessly integrating our ideas and research data into Partyrock's innovative format.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figuring out how to prompt mathematical calculation into language-based generative AI application. And in a single widget to get various formulas to work simultaneously and generate the summation of the result. The result is processed by partyrock's AI to generate suggestive solutions.
"Our team is proud to achieve a solution that empowers organizations to take meaningful steps towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.
We pushed the boundaries of our technical expertise to ensure that mathematical calculations seamlessly integrated into a Generative AI application, delivering consistent and accurate results. This required innovative thinking and meticulous attention to detail as we optimized our approach to meet the unique challenges presented by Partyrock.
Furthermore, through thorough literature reviews and meticulous analysis, we ensured that our tool was built on a foundation of reliable and up-to-date data, enabling organizations to make informed decisions in their journey towards carbon neutrality."
What we learned
Converting and formatting various mathematical formulas into language prompts that not only works as an individual and as together simultaneously to get the summation correct result.
"This journey taught us invaluable lessons in mastering the AWS Partyrock platform, optimizing prompt engineering, and transforming complex mathematical formulas into language prompts. We gained a deeper understanding of technology's potential to address challenges and honed our skills in navigating Generative AI applications.
Through collaboration and perseverance, we emerged with a heightened appreciation for sustainability and a commitment to creating impactful solutions for a greener future."
What's next for Industrial Carbon Emission Analyst
This tool will be implemented as part of the School of Engineering's industrial engagement project, involving students as sustainability ambassador during their internship attachment.
Students will engage their respective industry stakeholders and through research and data collection of consumed material and utilization of this app, recommend methods that help reduction of company's carbon emission, enhancing their sustainability initiatives.
