Inspiration

As an indie developer, I noticed something simple: $1 is not just $1.

Every dollar means someone decided to pay for something I built. It represents time, effort, learning, and progress.

I wanted a place where indie developers could see that progress visually — not as an accounting dashboard, but as a personal journey.

That's why I built IndieRevenue.

Every dollar is progress.

IndieRevenue was created for IndieDevs, creators, freelancers, makers, and anyone building independently.

What it does

IndieRevenue helps you turn your revenue into visible progress.

You can:

  • 📈 Track your income and revenue
  • 🎯 Set personal revenue goals
  • 🏆 Unlock milestones as you grow
  • 📱 Organize revenue by project
  • 🌎 Create a public profile
  • 🔎 Discover other indie developers and their projects

The idea is simple: instead of only seeing a number, you can see the journey behind that number.

How I built it

IndieRevenue is a native iOS app built with Swift and UIKit.

I built the interface programmatically and focused on creating a simple, polished experience that feels native to Apple platforms.

The app uses Supabase for its backend and RevenueCat to handle subscriptions and in-app purchases.

I also designed the product around a future where revenue can be synchronized from different platforms. The goal is to eventually connect sources such as App Store Connect, RevenueCat, Stripe, PayPal, and Gumroad, so indie developers can have a more complete picture of their business.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was deciding what IndieRevenue should not be.

There are already many tools focused on analytics, accounting, or business metrics. I didn't want to build another complicated dashboard.

I wanted something more personal.

The challenge was turning revenue into something motivating — something that makes an indie developer feel that even a small sale is meaningful.

Another challenge was building the product while also preparing it for a real App Store launch. This meant handling subscriptions, RevenueCat integration, App Store requirements, localization, public profiles, projects, milestones, and the overall product experience at the same time.

What I learned

Building IndieRevenue reminded me that a small product can have a very clear purpose.

The most important metric isn't always the biggest number.

Sometimes it's the first $1.

Then $10.

Then $100.

Then the next milestone.

Each one is proof that you're moving forward.

I also learned a lot about building a product around a community rather than just a feature set. IndieRevenue is designed not only to track revenue, but eventually to help independent developers discover each other, share their progress, and see what others are building.

What's next

IndieRevenue is just the beginning.

The long-term vision is to make revenue tracking more automatic by connecting the platforms indie developers already use, while keeping the experience simple and focused on progress.

Because building independently can be difficult.

But every dollar is progress.
