This is my first time so be polite.
Inspiration
I wanted to help introvert teens like me, (I’m not an introvert now) practice social skills in a fun, low-pressure way, so whenever they go out they don’t have to ask their siblings to order for them.
About
It’s a cute web app that helps introverted teens become more confident. Through fun tasks, they practice social skills, earn coins, and use them to buy clothes for their virtual cat, so saying ‘hi’ won’t feel like an hour-long challenge anymore.
How I built it
I used HTML, CSS, JavaScript , localStorage to build the web app, creating interactive tasks and a virtual pet system for rewards. Since I built it solo, the app isn’t fully responsive yet. But it will look good in wide screens, like iPad.
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge was to start, not even joking. One thing that wasted my time was deploying, it’s not even done. The app does have local storage but it’s not working in replit. Also making tasks engaging without being overwhelming and designing a UI that’s cute but not cluttered took some trial and error. And making anything on iPad was hard (my laptop got some issues so it’s gone for repair), I tried to make it responsive but i don’t think it is cuz I didn’t opened it on phone.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
That I created this solo and make it a fully functional, interactive app that actually encourages teens to practice social skills while having fun customizing their virtual cat.
What I learned
That never do solo hackathons other then that, I learned how to gamify behavior, manage task-reward logic, and balance UX with functionality, all while keeping the app visually appealing.
What's next for IndiePet
Will add more tasks, social features, and pet customization options to keep users engaged and help even more teens grow their confidence and get independent.
