Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from the need to provide essential services to rural and marginalized populations in North Africa, who often have limited access to technology and education. We wanted to create an inclusive solution that uses technologies adapted to local realities, such as voice recognition and images, to enable these populations to access healthcare, education, and agricultural services.
What it does
The application is entirely based on voice commands, photos, and videos to accommodate users who cannot read. It features five main icons: Medical Appointments, Education, Agriculture (weather, etc.), Learning to Read (basic letters and words) and a marketplace where they can sell their products. Users can interact with the app using their voice or by selecting images.
How we built it
We used Flutter for the user interface development, Django with Python for the backend, and MongoDB for the database. For voice recognition, we integrated Google Speech-to-Text and Whisper AI. These technologies allow us to support multiple local languages and dialects, making the app accessible to a wide range of users.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was creating an intuitive and accessible user interface for people with varying levels of literacy. We also faced technical obstacles related to voice recognition in local dialects and integrating different technologies.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have developed an application that can truly make a difference in the lives of marginalized populations. The app's ability to function without an internet connection and support multiple languages and dialects is a significant achievement.
What we learned
We learned the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in technology design. Working with voice recognition technologies and image-based interfaces helped us better understand the needs of end-users.
What's next for InclusiveID
In the future, we plan to expand the app's features to include more services and languages. We also aim to collaborate with governments and local organizations to deploy the app on a larger scale and maximize its impact.
