INCLUSIVE HUB

Inspiration

The inspiration behind EmpowerAbility came from observing how people with disabilities often struggle to access basic information about wheelchair-friendly spaces, medical facilities, and inclusive communities. Many platforms exist, but they’re scattered, non-interactive, and rarely designed for the disabled community by inclusive thinking. Our aim was to build a one-stop AI-powered accessibility hub — enabling independence, connection, and empowerment.

What We Learned

Through this hackathon, we explored how the Gemini API can go beyond chatbots — becoming an AI assistant, vision analyzer, translator, and sentiment-aware engine. We learned to integrate it into real-world scenarios for accessibility, speech recognition, and inclusivity.

How We Built It

We combined multiple Gemini API features to create an all-in-one accessible app:

Accessibility Finder

Users can search wheelchair-friendly restaurants, malls, hospitals, and public spaces.

Integrated Gemini Vision API to analyze Google Maps images or uploaded photos to detect ramps, elevators, and accessibility signs.

Voice & Gesture Assistance

Speech-to-text API for hands-free control — enabling users with motor disabilities to navigate or post content through voice.

Text-to-speech (TTS) for visually impaired users.

AI Chat Companion

A Gemini-powered multilingual chatbot that assists users with daily queries — from “nearest accessible café” to “how to apply for disability certificates.”

Emotional tone detection for empathy-driven replies.

Marketplace for Talents

Disabled artists (e.g., a person painting with their feet) can upload artwork, and Gemini Vision labels the art, generates creative titles/descriptions, and even summarizes stories for promotion.

Gemini helps generate product captions and pricing suggestions.
