InclusionFunds: Empowering Financial Futures

Inspiration

The inspiration for InclusionFunds came from observing the significant barriers that individuals from marginalized communities face in accessing financial aid. Many of these individuals often lack the resources and guidance to navigate the complex world of financial aid options, which can limit their opportunities for education and personal growth. So was born the idea to create a platform that not only connects users with tailored financial aid opportunities but also promotes financial literacy and wellness.

What it does

InclusionFunds is a fintech platform designed to empower users by providing personalized financial aid matching and holistic financial management tools. Our platform allows users to:

  • Apply for Tailored Financial Aid: It connects users with opportunities that best suit their needs.
  • Track Budgeting Goals: Users can monitor their budgeting and spending to achieve long-term financial wellness.

How it was built

InclusionFunds was built using a combination of technologies:

  • Front-end: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the user interface, focusing on accessibility and user experience.
  • Back-end: Node.js was used to handle server-side operations and manage data.
  • Database: MySQL was utilized as a database to store user data, applications, and financial aid opportunities.
  • Design Tools: Design software was used to create the logo and branding that reflects the mission of inclusion and empowerment.

Challenges I ran into

During the development of InclusionFunds, I faced several challenges:

  • Technical Limitations: Integrating different technologies and ensuring they communicated effectively was a hurdle, particularly when managing data between the front-end and back-end.
  • User Accessibility: Ensuring the platform was accessible to users with disabilities required additional research and testing, which initially slowed down our progress.
  • Budgeting Tool Development: Creating an intuitive budgeting tool that catered to various financial situations proved to be complex, requiring multiple iterations based on user feedback.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud of several key accomplishments:

  • User-Centric Design: I successfully developed a user-friendly interface that prioritizes accessibility, making it easier for all users to navigate the platform.
  • Smart Matching Algorithms: The development of an effective algorithm to match users with financial aid was by no means easy.

What I learned

Throughout this project, I gained invaluable insights:

  • Importance of User Feedback: Engaging with users early and often would have helped me refine the features and improve the overall user experience.
  • Technical Skills: I enhanced my coding skills, particularly in JavaScript and Node.js, and learned best practices for developing accessible web applications.
  • Successful Testing: The platform would should undergo rigorous user testing, though not enough time was available to receive feedback on the usability and effectiveness in matching users with financial aid.

What's next for InclusionFunds

Moving forward, I have exciting plans for InclusionFunds:

  • Expand Financial Resources: I aim to increase the range of financial aid opportunities available on our platform, including scholarships, grants, and microloans.
  • Enhance Features: I will develop additional features, such as personalized financial coaching and advanced budgeting tools.
  • Broader Outreach: I plan to increase our outreach efforts to reach more marginalized communities and ensure that our platform is accessible to those who need it most.
