Inspiration - Many people in the modern day don't identify with a certain gender. We are targeting the everyday language used in workspaces and institutions to promote equality through the use of non-binary gender pronouns.
What it does - Inclusify will identify the gender bias word used in an input and suggest that the user replace that term with a gender inclusive term. This web extension is not an autocorrect and does not replace text that has already been constructed. Instead it focuses on the user’s input, suggesting ways to foster inclusivity and better their communication. These terms may include them, their, they, partner, spouse, everyone, etc. Additionally, this Extension allows the user to understand why gender bias terminology is negative and its’ impact on members of the LGBTQ community.
How we built it - We created a web extension that will provide suggestions for the users to substitute their gendered language with more gender neutral words. It accompanies a website that helps explain why Inclusify communication is important.
Challenges we ran into - Implementing the desired functions in our web extension was more challenging than anticipated and our project has more room for integration to fit our goal for our end product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - Having a proof of concept with our web extension and our website, where our team equally contributed on.
What we learned - We learned technical skills that we wanted to improve on, as well as exploring new languages.
What's next for Inclusify - Creating a seamless integration with providing suggestions to Inclusify their communication on any text input.
