Inspiration

Our inspiration came from one of our group members and accommodations she thought would be helpful. She has both an autoimmune disease and limits what food she can eat (Celiac disease) and physical disability. She has had struggles finding places she can safely eat on campus and would love a place where students with similar challenges can come together to create solutions. With her physical disability, she often finds that there are places on campus that might not be accessible for those using mobility aids. Things like large cracks in the pavement or wheelchair buttons not opening doors pose serious complications for those with physical disabilities on campus and make their learning experience difficult.

What it does

Our app is a place where community feedback can be uploaded in a central place. The features include a list of safe items to eat on campus as well as information about hazards for those navigating campus with mobility challenges.

How we built it

Our app design was built using Figma and Swift. Due to our minimal experience creating apps, we focused the details of design on Figma. Since we wanted to give iOS a try, we built a very basic prototype of our App using Swift.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we were hoping to include google maps API in our prototype for our app. However, with limited experience and time to implement this, at the added payment complications, we decided that we would have to remove this feature from our prototype. Instead we placed a static image of the university to show what the google maps screen would look like.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our design and concept. Using the experience from our group members, we feel we were able to create something that could really benefit students on campus and create a sense of community for those struggling with similar challenges. We also feel our design is clean, user-friendly, and looks appealing to the user.

What we learned

We have learned a lot about working with a quick deadline and in a team. This experience was new to both of us and we have definitely improved our collaboration skills. We also learned more about Swift and Figma. Each of our members had knowledge of one but not the other so we were able to teach each other new skills and pick up new tools.

What's next for InclusiCampus

Next for InclusiCampus we would love to implement the backend and make the app available to students. The potential to expend the accessibility exist as well, collaboration with students with other disabilities would allow us to expand the app into something useful for everyone on campus with a disability.
