Inspiration

We are a team of young potential EV owners that live in apartments in the Bay Area. A lack of a garage for a home charger is a primary barrier to adoption, even though there are many chargers around our home. However, they have restricted access - a private workplace, or a fee to enter a parking garage. We created InclusEV/MoonCharge to open access to all chargers, increasing utilization for the parking sites and accelerating EV purchases for all.

What it does

It identifies both the charging stations installed in C&I buildings that are not used during the night and the potential new EV owners that could use them during the night. To do so it follows 3 steps by leveraging different datasets: Step 1: Identify the pool of available charging stations (offer) from C&I buildings with charging stations. Step 2: Identify the pool of potential residential customers (demand) Target areas with high rate of ICE cars Target customers living in apartments /multi-family homes Sorted from lower income to higher income Step 3: Match offer and demand by overlaying the two previous pools

How we built it

What languages, APIs, hardware, hosts, libraries, UI Kits or frameworks are you using? We built it in Python 3.0 using Panda, Matplotlib, Numpy, Geopandas, Json, Geoplot, LineString,Glob and Shapely libraries.

Challenges we ran into

As a passionate team of energy enthusiasts and data scientists, we lacked a hard-skill developer and designer. We learned on the job with video tutorials!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have managed to define and build our concept in such a short time. And most of all, we are proud to have challenged ourselves while having a lot of fun!

What we learned

We learned how to focus our energies, divide up tasks, and execute. We also learnt a lot about the bay area CCAs, their role and their approach to innovation.

What's next for InclusEV

We hope to run a POC with a CCA, using a real dataset, develop a business model for the MoonCharge service (revenue redistribution), develop a working prototype for MoonCharge to manage customer operations (billing, scheduling functionality). The ability to schedule users increases the number of residents per charger. Future iterations could factor in commute time to determine how many hours of charge they need/week. Lastly, we could start targeting C&I customers that don’t have charging stations, considering the new benefit of increased utilization.
