As a person with a prosthetic on her right leg, I understand how it feels when your needs aren't being met at an establishment. It can be especially scary to voice out your concerns in-person because you feel your voice alone may not make a change. That's what inspired IncluCity, a web application that alleviates these concerns. It gives people with disabilities the chance to comfortably say their concerns about improving the accessibility of different businesses. Not only can they mention "grows" for these establishments, they can also mention the "glows," what businesses are doing right, in their reviews. In addition to that, users are able to enter a WebXR mode where they can see inside establishments to see how accessible they are without having to travel all the way over there in-person. The businesses themselves are given inclusivity scores from 0 to 100. These scores give them advice on what they can improve on while also telling them what they are doing right. IncluCity was created using AI prompting techniques and datasets on Lovable. It is a vibe coding project. Making IncluCity into reality had its challenges. A total of 3 prototypes were made of IncluCity. These prototypes often came with a range of issues varying from the WebXR mode not working to the data from the datasets not being used properly. I also had to manually put in reviews to have some sort of data displayed. While this version of IncluCity has mock reviews, it is the most complete version. For the most part, the basic functions of what I brainstormed for IncluCity are complete which is something I'm proud of. It also has a nice UI with a basic, but well functioning WebXR mode. Something that I learned from the development process is to make sure I prompt it properly so that the application properly saves your reviews and displays that information alongside the other reviews. Future plans for IncluCity include the following:

  • Expanding it outside of LA County
  • Adding business profiles so that they can respond to reviews and update their accessibility information.
  • An AI model that scans reviews & responses to prevent any crude speech towards users or businesses.
  • Users adding photos to reviews (the AI can also use these photos to implement them to the WebXR modes of the businesses/establishments.
  • Multiple languages.
  • The users being able to create petitions for change.
  • An individual WebXR mode for businesses that approve it.
  • Voice input mode so that users with visual impairments have an easier time using it.

As a community, we can help advocate for each other and give businesses our honest thoughts to create a more inclusive world.
