Inspiration

We are a team of two from opposite sides of the globe--finding each other In Space! Mental health patterns are tricky to identify, particularly during the pandemic, and so we wanted to find a way to allow data analysis tracking a variety of common factors that influence mental health (like food, water, exercise, fresh air, stress, hormones, and more!).

What it does/What we hoped

Be in charge of your mental health! Track your daily habits--from how much water you drink to how much time you spent outside--and gain insight into your mental health patterns! Keep a journal to document any other observations, and find what makes you 'tick'. Many of these patterns we fall into might be imperceptible to us on the surface, but data analysis can reveal secrets we were not even aware of!

How we built it

We live-collabed on coding with Visual Studio Liveshare using Django and analyzing our data with Pandas! Our website itself is designed with HTML5.

Challenges we ran into

It was a steep learning curve as neither of us had used Django before, but we kept at it and are tremendously grateful to all the different tutorials and help to be found on the web. Additionally, this was my first time developing a large bulk of HTML in one go, so I used Mobirise 5.0 for some assets to save time since it goes by so quickly during this event! We did not have enough time to complete our tracker but I hope our vision comes across.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first Hackathon--both individually and together, and so we're proud we learned so much.

What we learned

Oh gosh, what didn't we learn? Neither of us had ever even heard of Django before this, let alone develop an entire functioning web application that many can find useful even after TreeHacks is over!

What's next for In Space

We'd love to utilize this in our everyday lives as soon as possible, allowing users to add their own categories to track and follow, merge with health data collected on their smartphone, and have a calendar view of their habits! Integrating the journal more readily with data analysis will also be challenging but hopefully rewarding.
