Inspiration
I saw the work in progress of an existing solution and observed user experiences that were causing people with legitimate volunteer needs to be lost in a long list of thousands of others. I also saw a lack of additional languages and globalization. In short, the project did not have a good UX and did not scale very well.
What it does
This project is a place for volunteers and people in search of volunteers to post based on disaster event, language, and location. Ethel in Vermont can ask for groceries in English, Juan can offer in Spanish to bring bottles to firefighters in Mexico. Moderated by humans, not algorithms. To explain the system in a cliche manner, this is a "Craigslist for disaster relief volunteers".
How I built it
SQL database, Directus CMS & API, using Kotlin as the "glue" for enforcing API usage, routing URLs, and rendering AMPHTML.
