Inspiration

As students who sit all day doing work or any general activity, we noticed that poor sitting habits lead to poor posture. This issue can lead to other health problems as the muscle weakens from not being activated. This app is intended to help individuals take a short break from doing work and engage in stretches to not only adjust their postures but also increase their blood flow to the rest of their bodies. These exercises will improve posture, relieve muscle tension, and reduce stress!

What it does

In Doubt? Work it Out! is a mobile app that provides a daily stretching routine and includes exercises intended to increase range of motion, alleviate muscle tension, and improve poor posture developed by sitting and working all day. There are visuals and tips for each exercise to perform them effectively. While aiming to help with stretching, our app also includes words of encouragement, a brief self-reflection question before beginning the workout, checkpoints in between exercises to ensure safety and comfort, and even a short game midway through the full body workout option!

How we built it

We explored Figma for the first time, and we are proud of what we’ve been able to create! We incorporated elements of graphic design from scratch, created easy-to-navigate buttons, and combined components to create more complex features, such as dynamic transitions, a pop-up window, and a simple game for our mobile app prototype.

Challenges we ran into

After experimenting with Python GUIs for a few hours, we decided to instead explore Figma to develop a mobile app, both to make our development process quicker and to challenge ourselves to learn and use a new technology. While using Figma, we were not able to include a component for user input, so alternatively we provided viable options for users to select from and tap on that would guide them through our app. Additionally, we had to come up with creative ways to implement animated transitions, a pop-up window for the self-reflection question, and a simple game for users to play since these features were not provided by Figma.

Accomplishments we're proud of

This was our first time using Figma and also working on app development; we are excited about the design, features, and functionalities included in our app dedicated to encourage and help others feel better and live healthier!

What we learned

We developed knowledge of UI/UX design and interaction and skills in app development, product prototyping, and graphic design.

What's next for In Doubt? Work it Out!

We hope to expand the features of the app by exploring other software to incorporate elements for user input, as well as more pages to navigate to, animations, and a tracker for the number of days logged into the app.
