Water Quality Issue

Water quality is a major concern in Nigeria where majority of the population have limited access to basic water, sanitation and hygiene practices. This poses severe risks to human’s health and environment. Water Quality Issues in Nigeria include: Limited Access to Water, Sanitation and hygiene systems(WASH): The Nigerian Bureau of statistics published a shocking report that about 9% of the population have access to basic water sanitation and hygiene systems. Contaminated Water: According to UNICEF, approximately 70% of water at consumption point are contaminated. This increases the risk of exposure to water-borne diseases such as cholera, dysentery, amongst others. Water Pollution: Water bodies are heavily polluted with hazardous chemicals, plastic wastes, sewage and other waste products. Therefore, there is an urgent need to address this challenge.

Technology to Use

We plan to employ machine learning techniques to address water quality issues in Nigeria.

Challenges we ran into

Data Collection: obtaining robust data for the project

Benefits of Project in Nigeria

Improved Water Sanitation: this project will contribute to improve access to clean water and sanitation which is in line with SDG Goal 6. Environmental sustainability: clean water improves environmental sustainability. Improved Health System: access to quality water improves lifestyle and health which aligns with SDG Goal 3.
