Inspiration
We wanted to build a tool that helps students and job seekers improve one of the most important parts of the application process: the resume. Many people do not know what recruiters want or how to make their experience sound stronger. Improve Your Resume was created to give users fast, clear, and actionable feedback.
What it does
Improve Your Resume analyzes a user’s resume and points out strengths, weaknesses, and areas to improve. It helps identify weak bullet points, missing impact, formatting issues, and skills that should be emphasized more clearly. It also generates a stronger suggested version of the resume for comparison.
How we built it
We built Improve Your Resume as a web-based platform with a clean and simple interface. Users can upload or paste their resume, enter a target company or role, and receive AI-powered suggestions. We focused on making the process seamless, so feedback and improvements are easy to review in one place.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was making the feedback feel specific instead of generic. Resumes vary a lot in style, structure, and experience level, so it was difficult to create consistent and useful suggestions. We also had to balance detailed analysis with a design that stayed easy to use.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that the platform does more than just point out mistakes. It helps users understand what to fix and shows them a stronger version of their resume. We are also proud of creating a polished and intuitive experience that feels helpful for students and job seekers.
What we learned
We learned that personalization is very important when giving resume feedback. We also learned that strong design matters just as much as strong analysis, because users need feedback they can quickly understand. Building this project also showed us how AI can be used for practical, everyday career tools.
What's next for Improve Your Resume
Next, we want to add features like job-description matching, company-specific suggestions, and resume scoring. We also want to support cover letters and let users manage multiple resume versions. Our goal is to grow Improve Your Resume into a more complete career-preparation platform.
