Inspiration Imposter Live was inspired by a playful moment on the playground with my sons. They wanted to roleplay an imposter game by running, hiding, and acting out roles. That sparked the idea for a simple one-device game to bring that energy to life.

What it does Imposter Live assigns secret roles such as Imposter, Crewmate, Sheriff, or Jester on a single shared device. Players view their roles privately, then run, roleplay, and act it out in real life. At the end of each round, everyone votes to identify the imposter.

How we built it The initial version of Imposter Live was built in just 10 minutes using bolt.new. During the free token weekend, I spent half a day enhancing the app by adding custom roles, round logic, vote tracking, and UI improvements. It runs as a PWA with local storage, fully offline and ready to play on any device.

Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge was not technical, but rather the players themselves. Especially with children, sticking to rules during roleplay proved difficult. Some would reveal their roles too early, ignore their character actions, or forget to vote. The gameplay had to be flexible enough to accommodate that chaos while still being fun.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We built a playable prototype in just 10 minutes. The experience was meaningfully enhanced in half a day. Most importantly, we created joyful moments of laughter and chaos using just one phone.

What we learned Real-world play introduces unpredictability, especially with kids. Simpler tools often make the best games. Most of all, we learned that inspiration can come from the most ordinary moments.

What's next for Imposter Live Multi-language support in Chinese, Malay, and Vietnamese has been added, and we hope to reach a wider audience. We plan to submit the game to app stores for iOS and Android. We also aim to feature Imposter Live on PWA directories and game hubs. Development will continue with improvements to UI and user experience, along with the addition of new game modes based on player feedback.
