🎓 Inspiration
This tutorial was created to bridge the gap between 3D modeling in Maya and asset integration in Horizon Worlds. As creators explore immersive environments, I wanted to offer a clear, modular guide that makes importing and texturing assets feel approachable—even for those new to the workflow. There are very few resources available for Maya as most of them are for Blender and as the platform grows it is important to include more!
🧩 What It Does
The tutorial walks users through:
- Setting up scale and units correctly in Maya
- Creating and applying materials using Hypershade
- Exporting meshes in
.FBXformat - Uploading assets into Horizon Worlds via both the Desktop and Web editors
- Matching material names and texture conventions for proper rendering
🛠️ How I Built It
I created:
- Step-by-step visuals showing Maya’s interface and Horizon’s asset pipeline
- A video of me going through all the steps
🧱 Challenges I Ran Into
- Clarifying Maya’s unit settings and physics quirks for new users
- Using GitHub
- Keeping the tutorial concise while still covering all essential steps
🏆 Accomplishments I am Proud Of
- Created a clear, remixable tutorial that’s both technical and creator-friendly
- Made the workflow accessible for creators with varying levels of experience
📚 What I Learned
- Even small mismatches in naming or scale can break the import process
- Using GitHub
🚀 What's Next for the Maya-to-Horizon Tutorial
I am planning to:
- Add quick-start templates for common asset types
- Expand the guide to include animation
