Inspiration
Approximately 1.35 million people die every year from car crashes. Many of these deaths are due to one or both of the drivers being impaired in some way, and being unable to react fast enough to the road. There are many times when someone has had either a very low number of drinks, or is tired or impaired for some other reason, yet would still want to drive. We want to be able to solve this problem so that one can be sure on whether they are suitable to drive
What it does
The app shows you 4 pictures, and requires you to pick the correct one (GT logo). After doing this multiple times, it gives you your reaction time. After getting your reaction time, it tells you whether you are suitable to drive, or if you are too slow.
How we built it
We built this app in Unity using C#. It runs on Android phones.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of trouble just setting up our environments and getting it working. After that, we ran into problems trying to measure reaction time accurately without any extra delays.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we are able to have a finished product in this quick turn around. We also learned a lot and are much better at Android Development.
What we learned
We learned that app development is really hard. Even "simple" applications can be difficult to make fast and accurate.
What's next for Impaired Reaction Detector
There are other things that can determine your ability to drive such as cognition speed or your BAC level. We wish to add other things to this application to make it a full project.
