Inspiration
In order to develop something that benefits Youth4Good, we spent some time researching about Youth4Good's mission and goals and we were particularly impressed that Youth4Good is connecting highschoolers with volunteer opportunities. As high school students ourselves, we understood that there is a lot of time and energy spent assigning volunteers to opportunities that they like. We decided to make an app to overcome this challenge.
What it does
ImpactLink helps young people find volunteer opportunities by getting their interests, location, and age to match them to volunteer opportunities. Users will be able to manually match to opportunities and they will get automatically matched as well. They can then choose to unmatch from the opportunity or decide to volunteer at the opportunity.
How we built it
We built it through customtkinter, a platform where python can be compiled to create a user-friendly interface.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't know each other at first and struggled to develop a good pace. However, after some time spent getting to know each others' strengths and weaknesses, we were able to delegate tasks so that each of us could focus on our strengths and maximize efficiency.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is one of our first hackathon but we persevered and it was a very fun time. It is very satisfying to finally finish the project that we have been working on for the entire day.
What we learned
We learned how to code in Python, use customtkinter, and make a modern, uncluttered UI.
What's next for ImpactLink
This app can be ported to other OSes like iOS, macOS, and Android, and could get a dedicated server to handle requests. We will also be able to partner with companies so that they can easily post opportunities onto the app.
