Inspiration
Millions of underprivileged children depend on NGOs for education, nutrition, and healthcare. However, many NGOs still manage child records, donations, and volunteer activities using spreadsheets or disconnected tools. We wanted to build a modern AI-powered platform that brings everything together in one place while providing transparency for donors and better decision-making for NGOs.
What it does
ImpactLens AI is an intelligent NGO management platform that helps NGOs manage children, volunteers, donors, and educational and nutritional progress.
The platform provides:
- Child profile management
- Nutrition and education tracking
- Volunteer management
- Donor transparency dashboard
- AI-powered child risk analysis
- Analytics and reports
- Notification system
- Responsive admin dashboard
The goal is to improve operational efficiency while enabling better outcomes for children.
How we built it
We built the application using Next.js 15 with the App Router and TypeScript. The frontend was designed with Tailwind CSS and shadcn/ui components to provide a modern user experience.
The backend is implemented using Next.js API Routes with a repository architecture. The application is structured to integrate with Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL through Prisma for production deployments. During development, mock data was used while waiting for AWS account activation.
The project is fully deployable on Vercel and designed with a scalable architecture for future production use.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was designing a scalable architecture while working within a limited hackathon timeframe. We also focused on avoiding hydration issues in Next.js 15 and ensuring the application remains production-ready with a database abstraction layer that can seamlessly migrate to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

What we learned
During this project we gained practical experience with the Next.js App Router, modern React patterns, scalable application architecture, authentication, API design, and building production-ready full-stack applications. We also learned best practices for preparing applications for cloud database deployments.
