Inspiration

Imagine a world where every child receives the right vaccine at the right time, without worrying about lost or damaged immunization booklets. With our digitized immunization record system, we can make this a reality. Our system enables accurate tracking of a child's vaccination history, ensures the timely scheduling and administration of appropriate vaccines, and provides reminders for upcoming vaccinations or appointments. By digitizing the immunization record system, we can improve healthcare delivery and outcomes for children in African countries.

What it does

Our web application is designed to help parents or guardians keep track of their child's immunization records and receive reminders about upcoming vaccinations or appointments. The app allows parents or guardians to create an account and add their child's information, including immunization records.

The app sends reminder notifications to parents or guardians when it's time for their child's next vaccination or appointment, which can help parents or guardians stay organized and up-to-date with their child's immunization schedule. Additionally, the app provides information about different types of vaccines, including their benefits and potential side effects, to help parents or guardians make informed decisions.

The app also provides a list of healthcare providers in the area where parents or guardians can take their child for vaccinations or appointments. This can be helpful for parents or guardians who are new to the area or looking for a new healthcare provider.

We also acknowledge the fact that parents or guardians can be very busy, which can make it challenging to keep track of their child's immunization records and healthcare appointments. Our web application is designed to make this process as easy and convenient as possible for busy parents or guardians.

By using the web application, parents or guardians can save time and reduce the stress of trying to keep track of their child's healthcare needs. The reminder notifications and personalized recommendations can help parents or guardians stay on top of their child's immunization schedule without having to worry about missing appointments or vaccinations.

Overall, our web application provides a convenient and easy-to-use platform for parents or guardians to manage their child's immunization records and stay up-to-date with their child's healthcare needs.

How we built it

We started by defining the user requirements and features: We identified the features that the web app should have, such as tracking immunization records, sending reminders about upcoming appointments, and allowing users to view their child's vaccination history. we also found it important to also consider the user experience and make sure the app is easy to navigate. We then chose a web development platform: React, because of ease of use, scalability, and community support when selecting a platform. We also had to choose a database because the web app needs a database to store immunization records and user information. We decided to use Azure SQL Database.

The next step was to design the user interface which included mockups of the different screens and user flows. While the user interface was designed, the development team started building the web app. This involved coding the front-end and back-end functionality, integrating the database, and setting up any necessary APIs.

This is currently where we are as a team right now.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges we had was the technical skillset of our team. We didn't have the technical skillsets to ensure a proper flow so we had to work with what we had. Another major challenge we had was time management. Considering we are all students and some of us either had tests or classes, it wasn't easy to dedicate soo much time to the project as we should have.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of how much we have grown as a team, most especially in owning our solution. We realized how important this solution was to every African child and this was constantly our motivation through all the sprints even when our progress wasn't as beautiful as we wanted it to be.

What we learned

We learned teamwork and collaboration, understanding that we work better as a team than individually regardless of how smart each of us is. We also gained new knowledge from the Microsoft Learn Challenge that was provided for us.

What's next for Immunify

A whole lot. We have started working on this project and regardless of the outcome, we strongly believe that finally putting out this project to the public would improve the healthcare system in Africa. This is a big project and we plan to keep building with or without support. We plan to complete the project and provide the web app to healthcare professionals for their patients. Another major part of this project is building the Health care professional's account and dashboard. For now, we focused on just the users but we would expand the application to work for both parties. We also plan to build mobile applications and provide USSD services with it.
