Our inspiration for this project is that our parents are immigrants and they had trouble finding a place to live. Our parents would often move from state to state to search for a place that would suit their preferences.
What it does
To avoid this scenario for all immigrants, we created Immigration Station which is an app that uses info such as the preferred weather, average rent, cost of living index, and average salary by state from the user to find a state in the US that would best suit the user.
How we built it
We built it using Core ML as the framework. We also used Xcode as the development app and then swift as the development language.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into include the gradient of our app. We struggled for a long time with the gradient, but eventually, we were able to make it work. Additionally, we had trouble formatting both the UI and the data. By testing and trying multiple different solutions, the formatting was later perfected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the gradient as it was very difficult for us to do and it really sets the app apart visually. Furthermore, we are proud that we were able to create an app that could prove incredibly useful for newcomers in the United States
What we learned
Some of our members were new to coding and learned how to use dictionaries and everyone learned how to create an app using Swift.
What's next for Immigration Station
In the future, we hope to improve the app by adding more preferences and making the user interface more user friendly.
