Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project was to train medical trainees and bystanders to perform using VR in highly stressful situations. The idea being that if you see perform something realistic in VR, you are more likely to not be as stressed in a real life scenario.

What it does

This project shows a VR scene of an anaphylactic reaction occurring in a restaurant. Captions will pop out on the top left to show you what to do in this scenario as you proceed.

How we built it

We used Unreal Engine to build to the virtual environment and Wavepad to generate the sounds for the game. We decided on a restaurant because it is a common public place for allergic reactions to occur.

Challenges we ran into

Unreal Engine is a powerful software that requires a lot of processing power. Due to the time and processing constraints, we were unable to create animations to go with the hyper-realistic graphics.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the realistic environment we created from scratch on Unreal Engine, all the ideas we came up with and boiled down to. Though we were unable to implement game mechanics and animations to the game, we are proud of the data and knowledge learned throughout this process.

What we learned

We learned that many medical professionals still have knowledge gaps and many people may not realize the symptoms that someone is going through an anaphylactic reaction (https://aafa.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/anaphylaxis-in-america-press-release-2015.pdf).

What's next

We would like to add more VR situations to the game and obtain higher processing power through funding to create better immersive environments.
