I’mHungryButBroke

I’mHungryButBroke is a website that recommends the user menu choices at different fast food places within their budget.

Inspiration

Inflation has affected all of us, especially as post-secondary students with student loans. In one of our brainstorm sessions, we wondered, what if there was a website that could tell us what and where we could buy food with the limited amount of money in our pockets, and since we were always on a tight schedule, we decided to make our recommendations based on fast food places. That's why we created I’mHungryButBroke, a website that would recommend menu items based on our budget for when we are in a crunch.

What it does

I’mHungryButBroke recommends the user what the menu items they could buy at different fast food places when they are on a budget, and where to go to get them so they can plan their trip accordingly.

How we built it

We used React as our main programming language and used JavaScript for the json files. We also used frameworks like domain.com for the domain name. We created a website so that users can access our services.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a lot of challenges. Our biggest challenge was using React to align the search bar. We had a hard time trying to align the search bar to the centre of the page for better aesthetics.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first time working together as a team, and we are very proud that we finished the project on time when our skills and experiences vary, with only minor hiccups and no major arguments along the way. We are also very proud of the team we have become.

What we learned

We learnt React and how to read/write json files. For some of us, we also learnt how to collaborate with GitHub.

What's next for ImHungryButBroke

In the future, we will implement a feature where users will be directed to the store’s nearest location after they have made their choices in food. We will also update the json file to include more items from different fast food restaurants.
