Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project came from Pokemon Go UI and UX.
What it does
Our project is a mobile app designed for iOS systems. The main idea is to move in real space, indicated by a map, where you can leave "messages in a bottle". These messages contain a message from a user at the specific location where it was created. The bottles can only be opened once by a passerby with the app.
How we built it
To develop this we all learned react-native for the first time through the expo-go framework.
Challenges we ran into
One problem arose from the framework expo-go. This framework runs into some errors while using windows systems, and none of us were familiar with react-native before this weekend. We also encountered a problem when we had to decide on the backend for our app, as few tools were recommended by the expo go framework.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our design, our teamwork, our UI, and the fact that we tried tools that were new to all of our members. We are also proud of the unique idea!
What we learned
We have learned the basics of react-native that can be applied when we create apps in the future, and how to work with people we've never met before in such a short amount of time.
What's next for iMessage in a Bottle
In the future, we'd love to use Firebase to implement our users and messages database, link APIs to exploit the digital nature of these messages in bottles with voice recording and pictures, and eventually have the app listed in the App Store!
