🎬 Inspiration
I wanted to build a collaborative space where movie fans can build a shared library together. The goal was to combine the reliability of IMDb metadata with a community-driven database.
🚀 What it does
MovieCea is a full-stack cinematic platform I built from scratch.
- Shared Database: Unlike private lists, every movie added is available for the entire community.
- IMDb Integration: Users can instantly fetch and add verified movie data via the IMDb API.
- Full CRUD: Registered users can list, add, and edit movies in the common collection.
- Auth & Admin: Includes a secure login system and a dedicated Admin panel to moderate the global database and manage users.
🛠️ How I built it (Solo Project)
As the sole developer, I handled the entire stack:
- Frontend: Built with React for a dynamic user experience.
- Backend: A custom Node.js/Express API to manage IMDb data and the shared database.
- Database: A centralized system for community-contributed films.
- Security: Implemented authentication to protect the global database from unauthorized edits.
🧠 Challenges I faced
The main challenge was building the entire architecture alone in a short timeframe—specifically syncing the IMDb API with my own database while ensuring that the "Admin" and "User" roles functioned correctly for a shared environment.
📖 What I learned
I gained hands-on experience in managing a full-stack project solo, from designing a collaborative database schema to implementing secure administrative controls.
