Inspiration

Are you ready to reimagine the way you connect with your community? Our WebXR application, inspired by the popular online chat platform Omegle, offers accessibility across all platforms for users to express themselves and create the community they want to be a part of. Embrace the future of communication with “Imagination I-Land”. Join us on our journey to revolutionize online community building with WebXR.

What it does

Imagination I-Land is a WebXR platform that enables users to join random rooms, communicate with other online users, and create bonds through an interactive and unique experience. The ability to skip to another room across the network allows for endless opportunities to connect and create new experiences with random people. The WebXR platform is accessible across multiple devices, making it convenient for users to join from anywhere. Our goal is to revolutionize online communication and connection through the use of WebXR technology.

How we built it

We built this application using the Wonderland Engine, a cross-platform tool for creating WebXR experiences. Our designers prototyped in ShapesXR to prototype the workflow of the application. They used Blender to create 3D objects, which were then imported into the Wonderland Engine. We integrated multiplayer functionality to allow users to see each other in the virtual space, and made objects in the scene grabbable for an immersive experience.

During the development process, we faced some challenges such as figuring out how to make the experience as immersive as possible and creating a community-based application. To overcome these challenges, we gathered feedback and suggestions from users to ensure that the application meets their needs. Many users suggested they loved the idea of being able to jump into another room with a simple button and keep meeting new people, which is why we implemented this feature to make the experience unique. We also incorporated user testing and feedback throughout the development process to ensure that the application was meeting user needs and was iteratively improved. The project was built using various programming languages, frameworks, and libraries. We are now focusing on future updates to improve the application and make it even more immersive, interactive and unique for the users

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges we faced as a team was working with a new technology, the Wonderland Engine. None of us had experience working with it before and we had to learn quickly in order to create our WebXR application. This led to some difficulties in debugging the application as we encountered many walls in the development process. It was challenging to troubleshoot and fix issues that arose, but through perseverance and collaboration, we were able to overcome them. Another challenge we faced was trying to implement too many ideas at once. We had a lot of creative ideas for the project but quickly realized that many of them would be difficult to execute, given the limited time and resources we had. We had to make tough decisions and prioritize the features that were most important to the core idea of the project. The core idea of the project was also a challenge. At times, we found ourselves getting caught up in the technical aspects of the project, but we had to remind ourselves of the purpose of the project, which was to create a unique, immersive and interactive experience. We had to stay focused on the core idea and function of the project, and by doing so, we were able to create an application that we are all proud of. We faced many challenges but we all believed in this idea and that belief helped us to overcome all the obstacles.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have accomplished several key milestones in the development of our WebXR application. First, we successfully learned and implemented a new engine, the Wonderland Engine, which allowed us to create a unique and immersive experience for users. We also had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with new people, which helped to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the project. Additionally, we wrote scripts and created a network for interaction, which allowed users to communicate and interact with each other in the virtual space. And finally, we are proud to have successfully brought all of the different components of the project together and getting things working, resulting in a polished and functional application that we are excited to share with the world.

What we learned

Through this hackathon and our project, we have gained valuable knowledge and skills that will serve us well in the future.

Our project, Imagination I-land, is not just a fun and interactive WebXR experience, but it's also an implication of research on the benefits of chatting with strangers and the importance of XR technology.

Research has shown that chatting with strangers can have a positive impact on our social and emotional well-being. It allows us to expand our perspectives, learn from others and improve our communication skills. Our project provides a safe and controlled environment for users to engage in conversations with strangers, fostering connections and understanding among people from different backgrounds.

Furthermore, the use of XR technology in our project is crucial as it enhances the immersive and interactive nature of the experience. It allows users to engage with each other and their environment in a way that is not possible with traditional communication platforms. The ability to see and interact with other users in a 3D space creates a more realistic and engaging experience, making it easier to connect with others and form relationships.

We learned how to work with a new technology, the Wonderland Engine, which helped us to understand the potential of WebXR and how it can be used to create unique and immersive experiences. We also learned how to work collaboratively as a team and how to overcome challenges that arose during the development process. We also learned the importance of gathering feedback and incorporating user testing, which helped us to improve the application and make it more user-friendly. This hackathon and our project have been a great learning experience for us and we are grateful for the opportunity to develop our skills and knowledge.

What's next for Imagination I-Land

The future is bright for our WebXR project, as we have big plans for improvements and new features. One of the main things we would like to focus on is enhancing the user experience by implementing more UI/UX features. We want to give users more options and choices within our experience, to make it even more personalized and engaging. Another area we want to improve is adding more interactable objects and experiences for users to collaborate and engage with each other. Our goal is to continue to create a safe space for users to come in and enjoy themselves in our "Imagination I-Land" WebXR experience. We want to make sure that our users feel comfortable and secure while they explore and interact with other users. We are excited to see where this project will go and we look forward to continuing to work on it and make it the best it can be for our users.
