Inspiration

Imaginary Friends was born from the quiet struggle every artist faces — the tension between creation and rejection. I wanted to explore what happens to discarded ideas and whether imagination ever truly fades once released into the world.

What it does

The short film visualizes the hidden life of creativity. Through the story of an illustrator whose sketches mysteriously come alive, it turns artistic frustration into wonder, giving form to the unseen energy behind creation.

How we built it

The project was developed through AI-assisted image generation combined with traditional film editing and compositing. Diffusion models provided the visual material, while manual VFX work ensured coherence, texture, and emotion across shots.

Challenges we ran into

Achieving visual and emotional consistency between AI-generated images was a major challenge. Each scene required careful attention to light, rhythm, and tone to maintain the film's dreamlike continuity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The film manages to merge AI unpredictability with human sensitivity, creating a visual language that feels both handmade and otherworldly. It captures the fragile balance between control and chance.

What we learned

I learned that AI is not a replacement for creativity but an amplifier of it. When used thoughtfully, it becomes a collaborator capable of revealing new emotional dimensions in storytelling.

What's next for Imaginary Friends

The next step is to expand Imaginary Friends into a series of experiments exploring the dialogue between human creativity and artificial imagination, where rejected ideas may continue to evolve and find new life.
