Inspiration
We wanted to try out something new yet simple, we had a couple new hackers on the team so we picked a smaller project that had a little bit of complexity
What it does
It converts an image that is provided into ascii art
How we built it
First we converted the image pixel by pixel into a gray scale value which we then mapped to 1 of 70 characters that represented different brightness levels.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a minor issue with some of the calculations for the greyscale converter, our team mate kyle luckily was able to sort the problem out relatively easily
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to write a project in a new language for the new hackers, and have them not only understand the code but improve and fix it as well
What we learned
Dall E endpoints are annoying to interface with, which is ultimately why it got scrapped
What's next for Image to Ascii
I dont really know but likely next Hackathon we will pick up a larger scale problem after everyone is more comfortable doing so
