What it does

Our service uses AIS data to identify triggers by which you can identify potential vessels of poachers. Service check next trigger types:

  • Ships moving at a speed of less than 4 knots
  • Meeting fishing vessels with refrigerated
  • Meeting fishing vessels In case of suspicious activity, the service sends an SMS message with information about the vessel. The service also has statistics on suspicious events and provides it in the form of graphs. On them you can clearly see the number of suspicious events over a period of time.

How I built it

The work was interesting, at first we thought about the general concept and then set to work on it. The development was conducted by the team, we have a person responsible for the client part, a person responsible for the server part and analytics. In a short time it was possible to make a simple prototype and already see the result on the screen. Later we start make improvements on our project.

Challenges I ran into

Real challenge was to find test AIS Data and then we created own database with test data and created test Rest API to work with it.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

In a short time, we managed to make a working demo project, which can really help reduce the number of poaching cases in the world.

What I learned

We learned to work better in a team, pulled up knowledge on the stack of technologies that we used

What's next for Illegal fishing detection

In the future, we plan to expand the service, add work with satellite data to cover the largest area of the planet and track poaching anywhere in the oceans, seas, rivers.
