Inspiration
Our main inspiration is to provide students a platform for learning, whose need we analyzed in this pandemic time when all schools and colleges are shut and they are unable to carry on with their courses the right manner. Many sites are for higher courses mainly college level but for school students, there are fewer courses available and there are many schools where online education is not provided. Those students can openly visit our website anytime and redeem courses at a very minimal rate or free of cost for most of the courses. Also, we intend to provide open sources like pdfs for learning purposes for the children who are unable to buy books from shops. We wish to help the needy children who want to study but are unable to go to school, buy books unlike those who are privileged with all this. This site may help them find the right inspiration to study and fulfill their dreams by assessing free study material and courses for them with an engaging manner of teaching.
What it does
Our website is fully working from signing up to enrolling courses from particular ids, we have made different pages for the student sign-in page and admin or teacher sign-in page. Any student, who wishes to enroll in courses, can visit the website, signup, and make an account on the site whose personal details and course details will all be private, only he/she can see it. We also have a section where teachers can log in to their accounts and check how many students enrolled in their courses. Teachers can log in with the username and password which will be provided to them privately, i.e. anonymous person can't register as admin. On our courses page, we have many courses for school as well as college students so they can study efficiently, also they can browse for the courses subject wise such that it will be easier for them to find the desired course. It also has a section where site visitors can clear their doubts or issues if any, that section is FAQ where common questions which might arise in their minds are mentioned with answers. If anyone wants to contact us or send us any message or feedback, they can do it from the contact section.
How we built it
For the contents and basic structure of the site we used HTML5 and CSS3 and bootstrap for all styling and look of our website. We used Javascript and jquery to carry out all the operations in the front-end of our website. Our backend is supported by the MySQL database. We thought it to make the site engaging for the students who are going to visit it, not boring and nerdy, unlike most e-learning sites so that they enjoy learning not to stress overstudying.
Challenges we ran into
We faced many challenges as we wanted to put many styles and implement our ideas in it but couldn’t implement our idea fully, like wanted to make our site well-formed in which all the parents can also view their child’s progress. We faced many challenges in making the homepage of our site which we tried for the first time for such a widely usable site and the site also requires many pages. We were challenged in building our courses page where we had to add format for the courses tiles. Also, we had a very short time to complete this project, we had to rush things up in order to complete this much, and we couldn't complete certain tasks which we wish to take further and will add to this site.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we made the FAQ section which is working well, also the login pages along with the backend to store the information of the students and teachers and all the info are private, also that no other admin can sign up instead of those who will be provided login and password from us. We are proud that we can make a working site with a working backend as well. We are proud that we can make changes in the life of those students through free courses, who are underprivileged and want to study.
What we learned
We learned working on the backend as a quick start from this site, we gained experience in backend development and making a useful site which can bring a lot of change in ways of studying. We completed this project in a short period of time and so we learned to manage time and enhance patience. We gained knowledge of new styles which we always gain while working on something new. We got knowledge of various new classes of bootstrap and jquery codes. We indulged ourselves in brainstorming and developed new ideas for the site, which unluckily couldn't be expressed fully but only in some parts, which are also mentioned in this written text
What's next for ILearn-Online learning platform to develop or enhance skills
We want to further improve our site by adding free sources or study material (PDFs) for the children who are unable to buy books from shops. We also want to make a room for students on the site only where they can study in groups in a virtual environment and invite their friends to join the group study. Also, parents can view their child’s progress by adding their accounts on the site and linking it with their child’s account. Teachers can also take live classes of their students on students’ request or start some thread of live courses in their accounts. Also, we want to add secure payment methods so that students enrolling in paid courses do not hesitate in buying courses as their details won’t be disclosed anywhere.
