Inspiration

COVID-19 pandemic has clearly demonstrated the need for each country to invest more in innovation not only for current pandemic but for all the challenges that lie in front of us (so called “new normal”). Innovations are one of key drivers of social growth and in times of crisis they are one of the key factors in the struggle to solving all the challenges we face. The governing bodies of states and company’s management, each within their own field of responsibilities, come up with ideas and solutions to overcome the crisis. But we see that the processes and tools aren’t as useful to businesses and countries as we hoped them to be. During the crisis, decisions must be made quickly. How are we sure that they are correct and that they are appropriate and applicable? Through the collection of various ideas, we reconsider our own decision, but also give space to apply other ideas. Our iKNOWation platform can provide an opportunity for anyone with ideas to participate in finding a way out of the crisis together.

Problems we are trying to solve

Lack of innovations and slow flow of ideas within organizations (private or public sector)
Many ideas exist, but not many of them are thoroughly researched and analyzed. Author of an idea may lack knowledge and therefore the right questions to upgrade an idea to a concept and at last, to business strategy before the product development starts.
Nowadays, there are many useful collaboration tools which are mostly used within the teams, but they may lack an openness and reach across the whole organization. This is even more pronounced in the environment of COVID-19 crisis where many employees are working from home.
Hackathons, such as EUvsVirus, are not the events which are usual, but they are valued because they offer a lot of answers to many questions. What if they become part of our everyday lives, within our organizations but also in the larger scale, such as solving problems found within public services sector?
Even after organization approve an idea and elevate it on an innovation level, there is no guarantee that it will succeed. Especial in challenging times when it is hard to track who is doing what and where lies their responsibility.
The knowledge that is collected on specific idea/innovation gets decentralized and regularly ends up in someone’s drawer.

How we resolve them

Knowation platform; which will enable users to post their ideas, share them with the whole organization to get as much feedback as possible - at its essence, such product will strengthen entrepreneurial spirit of the whole organization
Product which enables posting ideas/problems will offer a guided assistance through a process of offering the right questions to an idea author, but also tools and metrics such as SWOT analysis or Model Canvas and Gamification.
There is a need for culture change within many organizations and iKNOWation may be the right tool to enforce such change and enrich collaboration and inclusiveness among the whole organizations. Set of problems and ideas posted through iKNOWation is a call for cooperation which may produce needed solutions. It could become a marketplace of ideas where the currency becomes a sense of usefulness. Also, spreading the ideas and collaboration in improving them will empower organizations to be fueled not just top down, but also bottom up within the hierarchy.

Centralizing all the knowledge on ideas, innovation, projects, experiments and patents insures that non are forgotten. Giving organizations “Just in time innovation” when need occurs (all the documents are automatically stored in DMS, and the system informs users when there is a rising trend of interest for specific idea). Not to mention the ability to learn from your mistakes, and insuring that time and finance spent already spent can be reused in future occasion.

Solution's impact during and after the crises

During COVID-19 crisis, we work separately, and it is difficult to gather ideas under such conditions. Through our digital platform even in the COVID-19 environment, everyone has the opportunity to fully participate in delivering ideas and creating innovation. We hope that our platform will encouraging organizational agility by focusing processes of developing and evaluating ideas and be an enabler for rapid growth out of this economic crisis.
