Inspiration
We saw a post online about a "choose your own adventure" game in IKEA. This sparked an idea about making a personality quiz around IKEA furniture.
What it does
You take a 15 question quiz that tracks 5 personality categories that it then uses to decide what IKEA couch (out of 34) best fits your personality. At the end it tells you what couch you got and your personality score.
How we built it
We wrote it in c++ in Visual Studio. We used while, if, and switch statements, as well as Boolean variables, and referenced variables as well to have it remember the values through the test. We made functions for each question and called them in the main function.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a lot of small problems. First, the score wasn't tracked throughout, so it kept resetting back to a default 5 at each question. Then we also underestimated how many couches we needed in order to account for each personality score. (Originally we had 3 personality categories for each couch, which would require many more couches than having all 5 personality traits accounted for). Aside from that, there was the usual syntax issues, such as getting apostrophes to print, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We added a couch for every personality combination (plus an extra two "Easter egg" couches for hidden personality scores). We're also proud that half of our team had never really programmed before, so they learned a lot alongside the two of us who knew some programming, and we were able to make a finished product.
What we learned
We learned how fun it is to attach personalities to IKEA couches. Also, the people on our team who had never programmed learned some programming basics at least.
What's next for IKEA Personality Quiz
Getting the .dll files added so pictures could be added for each couch instead of the html file. Even past that, we were hoping to eventually turn it into a website, but none of us had any experience in making one.
